2024 – February – Van Loon Commons – Updates – Good and Not So Good

It has been years since we have bothered to post. The small group of people at Van Loon that were referred to as the “community” brought us through Covid learning only 1 thing. (Not that we couldn’t go to the outdoor pool for risk of death). We learned that persons on the Board could be out of the country (United States of America) for 2 years or so without resigning to allow persons able to be present to serve. Since Van Loon Commons completed its construction in 2007, technology changed drastically. Like most units, we still have outlets for corded phones though never used. Internet and cable have so many more options that the entire community contract for cable tv should have been revisited several years ago.

To be completed: What has happened since Hurricane Ian to our finances and why have we been in “Surplus Insurance” since 2015 or 2016? See prior posts regarding the insurance. Many of us question what claims there have been in the past few years that drove our premiums up beyond market forces. A former Board president (yes, little p) having his dog attack an elderly owner AND her much smaller dog causing injury to both? (Yes, little p sold shortly after).
